Common Uses
Fluoxetine is the most widely prescribed antidepressant. It is indicated for the treatment of depression, with symptoms like changes in appetite, sleep, mind/body coordination; decreased sex drive, increased fatigue, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, difficulty concentrating, slowed thinking, and suicidal thoughts. Fluoxetine also is prescribed for treatment of severe form of premenstrual syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Fluoxetine may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How to Take
Use Fluoxetine as directed by your doctor. Do not take more than recommended by your doctor or label, to avoid potential danger for your health. The recommended starting dose to treat depression for adults is 20 mg. Fluoxetine 20 mg is taken twice a day divided into smaller doses at the morning and at noon. To increase you dose you should pass trial period of several weeks. The maximum dose of Fluoxetine is 80 mg a day.
Warning and Precautions

Missed Dose
If your doctor gave you strict instructions not to miss dose and if you missed one take the missed dose as soon as you remembered. If it is time for your next dose, skip it and continue taking you medicine regularly. Do not double the medicine. It can cause severe side effects.
Overdose
Fluoxetine overdose is dangerous mostly for central nervous system and heart. Mild symptoms of overdose include drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting, tremor, tachycardia, deep or fast breathing with dizziness. More severe complications include hypotension, cardiac rhythm disturbances, hallucinations, seizures, bluish colored skin or lips, confusion, general feeling of discomfort or illness, loss of memory, muscle pain. If you suspect an overdose contact your emergency room immediately
Storage
Store Fluoxetine at room temperature, in a tightly closed container it comes in. Protect from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep away from pets and children.
